1941 Plymouth Sedan
My father found this car in Minnesota, after a demolition team had listed it on-line. The demo team was to tear down this
garage and happened to see it had a basement in it. Well after they knocked out a wall, they found this car, a model T and a
nice 3 window that someone had blocked up inside with no way to get out? Amazingly, this car is vry solid and after a few
bumps in getting it back to West Virginia, it's going to be restored to the glory it once was, but this time...Better!
The first order of business was bracing the body and reoving it from the frame so that the structural integrity could be
discussed. It turns out the frame is in excellent shape, which will make a great platform to build from and restore the front
supension to original.
Tackling the interion was the next hurdle, making sure to label every nut and bolt as these pieces are hard to find!
Extensive body work was taking place on this solid, but weatherd car, the worst of all areas seemed to be the
fenders, with many splits, cracks, creases, it's alot of dolying, grinding, and welding for a true streetrod look.
After extensive work to the underside of the car floor, sanding, sealing, and undercoating; it was time to re-unite the body and
frame, replacing body mounts and begingin the stripping and rebuilding of the chrysler's supension, which at the time was the
leader in independant supension, notice the factory sway bar and shock mounts, Chrysler was on their game!
Installtion of the brackets up front made a nice transition from the original drums to disc brakes. Using a custom bracket and
then camaro brake hoses, rotors, and calipers. We had the rotors drilled out for 5 on 4.5 (ford/chrysler) pattern to match
the nice rear end we will put in later.
For a powertrin we have a 318 with a 727. A very nice combo for dependability and power. Fitting brackets for the tranny mount and
engine mounts proved to be a challenge.
Interior work on the dash to smooth some sections out and then we moved on to the doors and installation of the power window
assemblies. Cleaned the inside of the car to begin laying down the heat shield. This will help our car stay cool even when outside
temps get the metal up to 250 degrees.
